Most injuries that a child under 4 years old sustains are due to the toys they play with.
December is safe toys and gifts awareness month. http://www.healthtradition.com/december-is-safe-toys-and-gifts-month. Although, the season of gift-giving is coming to a close, it is important to make sure our children have safe toys year round.
Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
- double check for small parts and potential choking hazards
- read the labels to make sure all items are age appropriate to insure they are the right level for their development
- art supplies should be non-toxic and fabric items should be flame-retardant
Taking a second look at labels could save you a trip to the emergency room. http://www.safekids.org/keeping-all-kids-safe
